The Shaw House Challenge 2012!

Ride for Maine's Homeless Youth!

September 15, 2012

NEW! Media Kit - Find a Media Kit containing our latest press release, logo, and images associated with The Shaw House Challenge here. Read the Press Release here. We encourage media to be present from 7:30am to 8:30am for the Kick-Off on Saturday September 15th. To speak to someone regarding the Challenge or for an interview, please contact Sally Tardiff at development@theshawhouse.org or call her at (207) 941-2874..

The Cause - The Shaw House, a non-profit homeless shelter for youth based in Bangor, serves over 350 homeless or at risk of becoming homeless youth every year. To fulfill its mission of “Reaching Maine’s Homeless Youth,” the Shaw House provides 24-hour shelter and safety through the Shelter and Day Program, outreach services, a transitional living program that provides intensive support and guidance to a small group of its service population, a medical clinic, and an on-site educational program where our homeless youth can earn their High School Diploma. The Shaw House covers the entire eastern part of the State of Maine. Read some of our stories.

The Ride - We have 2 rides this year! A 15 mile ride, and a 48 mile ride through a beautiful stretch of Maine on September 15th, 2012. Important! This year we will be starting at the Shaw House (136 Union Street, Bangor, Maine 04401)! We can't wait to show you Shaw House's home. These are great routes for cyclists at any level. See the Challenge Course for a map, elevation chart, course details and more. Ride-day details are below.

Corporate Sponsorship - Our local businesses are the backbone of our community. We need your support more than ever. Please consider the tremendous amount of good you can do as a corporate sponsor. Sponsorship levels vary and every bit counts. To view the number of ways you can participate, please see our corporate sponsorship page. If there isn’t a fit for what you would like to do, or if you have any questions, please contact our Development Team today at development@theshawhouse.org or call Sally Tardiff
at (207) 941-2874.

The Personal Challenge - How much can you raise to support homeless youth in your area? $100? $250? $1,000? Talk to your friends, family, co-workers and whoever else. You would be surprised how easy it is when they know who you're supporting. Just a little bit of your time can make a huge difference in their lives. Register as an individual today and join us on September 15th. There is no minimum level to raise and there is no registration fee. The most important thing is that you're there.

The Team Challenge - For those of us who live and work in the Bangor Region, we're a close community. Building on that, one theme we have built into the event is an opportunity to challenge a group of friends, co-workers, organizations, competitors or even strangers, to form a team and compete to see who can raise the most money. Form a team of 3 or more riders from your department, your office, your church or even your riding buddies and show us what you've got. Team captains should sign up first to create the team, followed by all members who want to join. Register today.

Details - The ride, not a race, is on Saturday, September 15, 2012, starting and ending at the Shaw House on Union Street in Bangor. Rain date: Sunday, September 16, 2012. Check-in starts at 7:30 am and wheels hit the pavement at 8:30 am. We will have support cars for anyone who falls behind or needs to take a break. Rest stops with bathrooms and food and drinks to refuel. Course information, including the route, interactive map, and elevation is on the Challenge Course page. There will be a 50/50 raffle, silent auction of great items, and a chance to spend time with some of the best people in the Bangor region! Still have questions? Email us at: development@theshawhouse.org.
